Since becoming Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has introduced hints of modernity and minimalism – aka the concept of M and M – into British royal style.
Known for her luxurious, understated, often monochrome outfits, dazzling red carpet gowns and sharp suits, her wardrobe combines designer royalty from Valentino and Céline to Manolo Blahnik, Chanel and Cartier with a few affordable finds from Self Portrait and Aritzia.
Many of her biggest style moments have taken place at the Invictus Games, where she made her debut in 2017 wearing Misha Nonoo’s “The Husband” shirt just months before the couple’s royal engagement.
With this year’s games underway, we take a look at how his Invictus style has evolved, from preppy button-down shirts and floral dresses to a series of crisp, clean, neutral-toned looks in striking silhouettes.
Meghan’s first appearance at the Invictus Games
For her first appearance at the Invictus Games in 2017, Meghan chose to pay homage to the host city of Toronto by wearing clothing from Canadian designers.
For the opening ceremony, the future royal opted for a £150 pleated midi dress from Aritzia, teamed with a matching £550 burgundy biker jacket from Mackage.
Meghan and Harry’s first official appearance together
Harry and Meghan made their first official appearance together at the 2017 Invictus Games at one of the wheelchair tennis events.
For the appearance, Meghan chose a smart-casual style, teaming a pair of Mother Denim ripped skinny jeans with Sarah Flint pumps, Finlay & Co sunglasses and a £150 oversized white Misha Nonoo shirt called ‘The Husband “.
Their royal engagement was announced two months after the appearance.

Attending the 2017 closing ceremony accompanied by her mother Doria wearing Burberry, Meghan looked radiant in black Paige jeans, Stuart Weitzman heels, a £475 trench coat from Canadian brand Line and a Stella McCartney bag.
Announcing their engagement a few months later, Meghan once again turned to Line for her cream coat.
Attend the Team GB trials for the Sydney 2018 Games
Appearing in Bath to attend the athletics trials for the upcoming 2018 Invictus Games, Meghan wrapped up in a £195 Aritzia trench coat.
The khaki piece was layered with the team’s official polo shirt, Mother Denim jeans and Stuart Weitzman ankle boots.
Invictus Games reception in London
Meghan was a picture of spring in a £400 Self Portrait floral dress for an Invictus Games reception in London, 2018.
Taking a break from her mostly neutral royal wardrobe, the pretty printed dress was teamed with a £1,580 Alexander McQueen blazer, Roland Mouret bag and Manolo Blahnik pumps.
When Meghan visited Cockatoo Island in Australia
Illesteva sunglasses were the statement piece of Meghan’s outfit when she traveled to Cockatoo Island in Australia for the Land Rover Driving Challenge.
The Duchess also wore an Altuzarra blazer, Mother Denim jeans, Tabitha Simmons pumps and an official Invictus shirt to match Harry’s for the occasion.
The 2018 Invictus Games Opening Ceremony
Meghan cemented her style evolution from actress to senior royal for the 2018 Invictus Games opening ceremony in Sydney.
Dressing up her baby bump, she layered a £395 Gillian Anderson wool coat over a classic navy dress with cape detail by Stella McCartney, accessorized with a Dior satin clutch and Stuart Weitzman pumps, with her hair styled in her signature low bun.
The Invictus Games basketball finals in Sydney
In the basketball final on the final day of the Invictus Games in Sydney, Meghan chose Australian designers as a farewell to the host country.
Chic in a £280 burgundy Scanlan Theodore wrap jacket, the peplum hem flared out on her Outland Denim jeans and was teamed with her favorite Sarah Flint pumps and Shaun Leane earrings.
The 2018 Invictus Games Closing Ceremony
At the 2018 Invictus Games closing ceremony, Meghan gave a speech to introduce Harry.
For the appearance, the Duchess wore a stunning olive green tuxedo style dress with winged lapel details and minimal accessories.
The dress was made by British-Sicilian designer Antonio Berardi and was paired with a Cuyana saddle bag, Aquazzura pumps and Pippa Small bracelets.
Meghan ahead of the 2022 Invictus Games
Meghan kicked off the Invictus Games 2022 proceedings in style, channeling Bianca Jagger’s wedding outfit in a £3,200 double-breasted white Valentino suit.
Continuing the wedding theme, she teamed the ensemble with the same white Aquazzura stilettos she wore to her own wedding in 2018. The look was completed with a £2,200 Valentino bag and a gold pendant necklace from one of her favorite jewelry brands, Sophie. Read.

For an appearance at the Land Rover Driving Challenge, Meghan ditched her powerful shoulders and opted for a £2,400 polished black tweed Céline jacket with gold buttons with a matching £1,950 bag from the same brand.
The smart-casual outfit consisted of washed Moussy Vintage jeans, a simple white tee, and a pair of classic Chanel ballet flats.
The reception of the IGF in Germany
Ramping up the glamor of a night out at the games in Germany, Meghan once again opted for all-white Valentino in a £3,600 crepe couture mini dress adorned with cut-out floral embroidery.
She finished the look with a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels, a Khaite bag and added a pop of color with crimson lipstick.

For the opening ceremony of the 2022 games, Meghan made a statement in an elegantly draped white Khaite bodysuit with interlocking pleats at the front.
It was worn with elegant tailored black trousers, a pair of Manolo Blahnik polka dot pumps and the piece de resistance, a £12,800 diamond-encrusted Cartier necklace.
Staying neutral at the 2022 Invictus Games
Sticking with the neutral theme we saw at the 2022 Invictus Games, Meghan chose another jacket and denim combination as she watched the events on the second day of the games, pairing a £1,944 ivory belted Brandon Maxwell jacket with a pair of washed denim jeans. but this time he styled the outfit with Manolo Blahnik suede heels.

Meghan is the picture of understated and refined high-waisted pants for an Invictus event in Düsseldorf in September 2022.
The Duchess tucked a sleeveless high-neck knit top by Anine Bing into £1,025 belted Brandon Maxwell pants, accessorizing with Dior pumps, Alexis Bittar earrings and her signature undone bun hairstyle.
